This article deals with the localisation/translation of both TDM itself, as well as Fan Missions.
The I18N support in TDM will only work with v1.07 or newer.

TDM Core
- 99%
- All the strings in the menu, the HUD, the in-game messages, the different menus as well as inventory item names and categories have been made translatable.
- A charset has been defined and made supported by the code.
- Both the menu font (Carleton) and the HUD font (Stone) have been patched to include the foreign characters. (Stone misses a few, esp. uppercase ones.)
- The bitmaps in the various menus where converted to text, including the huge headers
- The default Doom3 english.lang has been slimmed down (from >5400 to 200 entries), then all the nec. strings for TDM have been added, including a lot of sensible default strings that are either useful or used in FMs (like names for inventory items, speaker names and so on), resulting over 1130 entries.
- There is a script which can convert old FMs into I18N capable FMs, even matching different translations.
- Both the 0xff character bug, as well as the problem that choiceDefs do not work have been resolved
- Translations are complete for English, Dansk, Italian, Czech, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, French, Spanish and German.
- Hungarian, Slovak and Dutch are supported in the meunu, but not yet translated, hopefully some translators step up.
TODO
- The Download and Load/Save menu still need to be converted so their headlines can be translated.
- Adding accented and Umlaut characters the other fonts (only the 24px variant needs still to be done). To make this easier, a Font Patcher utility has been written.
- When an l10n.pk4 file is updated, the entire mission is redownloaded. That should be avoided somehow.
- Find more people who can contribute translations – maybe make it easier by creating a website where anyone can contribute translations for individual strings, ala launchpad?
