As far as I can tell, the units of D3 friction variables that you enter are inverse-momentum (i.e., sec*du^-1*mass^-1 (whatever unit D3 uses for mass).

It's been a while since mechanics, but I think this comes from looking at friction as a momentum-destroying term:

F = ma = m*dv/dt = External_force - D3_Friction * m * v

The D3 friction is essentially a drag coefficient, I think it is usually written as gamma, not sure.

For some reason, there was a cap of 1.0 on friction. I took this out in the latest CVS update, because I wanted to try the tweaked bow.
