You mean electricity is induced from magnetic fields, like how a transformer works?
So you have a fluctuating alternating current in the generator. This produces a fluctuating electromagnetic flux density in a field around it. A wire in the fluctuating magnetic field will have an a.c. current induced in it.
In the real world over any distance the intensity decreases a lot, so transformers have both coils next to each other, otherwise they'd be really inefficient.
Maybe TDM electric stuff is just stupidly inefficient, which'd make it costly, or maybe the physics are such that it is more efficient.
